Art & craft expositions held at the India International Trade Fair and Dilli Haat offered visitors a chance to view timeless traditions of rural craft and culture, rich gaiety of folk song and dance, splendour of handcrafted weaves and artifacts….a window to the multitude of interactive experiences beckoning at our rural tourism destinations.

From the renowned pat and muga silks of Sualkuchi (Assam); to famed Ikkat weaving of Pochampally (Andhra Pradesh); gossamer tana-bana weave of Chanderi from Pranpur (Madhya Pradesh); to the intricate embroidery of Hodka (Gujarat); unique metal mirror work from Aranmula (Kerala); delicate sandalwood carving of Banavasi (Karnataka); nimble weaves of carpets from Lachen (Sikkim)…and the deft strokes of the miniature paintings from Samode (Rajasthan)…the fairs provided an opportunity to interact with the artisans, learn about their tools and craft techniques, buy the exquisite handicrafts …

Enthralling folk art performances included the Gond tribal dance of Chaugan (Madhya Pradesh), Nati dance from Naggar (Himachal Pradesh), Dappulu dance from Pochampally (Andhra Pradesh), Kinnari Jogi folk music from Banawasi (Karnataka), Kachchhi Folk Music from Hodka (Gujarat) and Haryanvi folk theatre from Jyotisar (Haryana)
